DR Preoccupied

I stand opposed to what I've said from my last post.

There is no Last Day of Duty Syndrome. I've come to believe that it is but a series of unperceived, unfathomable powers of the cosmos, from which we have no absolute control. To further justify this premise let me narrate to you the exact details of my whole DR experience today.

We've been beating our asses down the DR area the whole afternoon. Imagine this. 7 deliveries. SEVEN I tell you, and there were only 6 of us since our group was divided into two shifts. I've just started doing my labor watch with my cheery, expectant mother (oh yeah, a nice conversation is a good pain diversion), when all of a sudden I was pulled out to scrub in.

While all 3 delivery rooms were occupied, another mother was on the way in since her baby is already crowning (the baby's head is starting to show). So imagine the extreme tense in the atmosphere while all the babies were born. Our clinical instructor had to practically run from the nursery to the delivery room to supervise all of us.

Therefore I'm forced to conclude that the feeling of "busyness" doesn't only come on Fridays but on Mondays too. LOL

So the duty hours just went on and on and on. I dare not whine though. This is a blessing and it doesn't come quite often. So yey for that. hahaha

Current delivery standing for now: 4-handles, 3-assists, 1-labor watch. Yahoo! haha

Only 3 more cases to go till DR completion. So friends, let's pray for that! haha

But for now, I'm pretty worn-out and my bed is practically seducing me to slumberland.

By the way, I'll be posting some pictures from the TGIF gang every now and then. Guys, kita2 ta panagsa. haha. I believe these were taken from Toni Mai's birthday bash at KFC Ayala. Photo compliments to Kayie!.. ^^

P.S. Greet ko po pala si Kuya Bry na bumabasa ng blog na 'to. Kuya, wag mo kalimutan ung last item sa christmas/bday wishlist ko. LOL

The Last Day of Duty Syndrome

It's quite perplexing how every last day of our clinical duty turns out an unexpected twist. Call me superstitious or what, but there's definitely something fishy about that one particular day which leaves us with nothing but sore feet, beaten up looks, fatigue and an inexplicable state of exhaustion.

All throughout the week, I was assigned to the Intensive Care Unit where I was given only one patient throughout the entire shift. Yey for that. hahaha. But even though she was in an altered state of consciousness, it was still quite challenging considering that she has these so many needs. To enumerate a few, that includes vital signs monitoring every 15 minutes, turning schedule every 4 hours, routine suctioning (since she's ventilator dependent), tracheostomy care, perineal care, oral care and environmental care. Then there's the occasional battle with the poop.

By Friday, I was assigned to the Emergency Room. Since this is already my 3rd rotation to the area, I already expected that I won't be as much occupied like in the ICU. What a relief! haha. But the LDD Syndrome strikes again and our immediate thoughts of relief were gone pronto! haha

By 4pm, the ER was jam-packed with patients and all the beds from the pedia, medical, surgical and OB cases were already full. I was assigned to the medical area but I helped out Brylle in the Pedia section where they had a total of 10 patients! Since the hospital floors have no available rooms yet, the admitted patients had to wait in the ER while we attend to all their needs. We had two dengue patients, both of which were seriously ill. The other one had to be taken to the PICU since his platelet count was too low and his BP started crashing. Imagine tending to 8 IV lines while giving a 1200cc IVTT PNSS Bolus! The rest of the duty was full with other patients ranging from motor vehicular accidents to minor cuts and suturing.

Kind of reminds me of the time we had our Operating Room / Delivery Room rotation at South General Hospital. It was the last day of duty and we were all about to leave the area when out of nowhere there were 2 stat operations and 2 mothers who are about to give birth. Instead of going home at 10pm, we were able to leave the area at around 2pm. haha

In a completely different note, I woke up pretty late today and I'm stuck with nothing else to do but blab here in my dear blog. haha. Oh yeah, below are some shots taken last Tuesday when James, Nowie, Kevin and I decided to hang-out at Figaro's to make our school requirements. Photo compliments to Noelle! haha

oh yeah, maka-gym na kog balik! yey! haha =_=

Procrastination Is A Crime

Whew! Finally I'm back dear readers.. haha

After nearly a week of needless medical worries, I'm finally back to my usual self and routine. Oh yeah, I'm on duty for the whole month so hello again requirements and pitiful duty hours. Hello DTR, ICU, OR, DR and blah blah.. *bummed. haha

I've got tons of homework, reviews and requirements and I have no clear idea when, what and how to start. Tsk tsk. The pile of the "must-do" seems to pile up at a faster rate every day and I'm having quite a hard time keeping up.

I'm doomed. haha

Must work harder this time then. haha

Good luck for me! ^^

Suicidal Ideation Turned FUN

Just when I thought depression got hold of my sanity, there's chicken skin to the rescue! nyahaha

Things went awfully bad yesterday. I woke up pretty late for my 7:30 class with our Dean. To top it all off, I experienced firsthand the horrible traffic in the South Reclamation Project. Seriously guys, you wouldn't wanna be there during the busy hours of the day. Especially on Mondays. Lesson learned. Tsk tsk..

I was able to reach school at around 8:00 and the whole morning was filled with lectures and endless questionings. Tip for the next class. Read RA9173. Lesson learned again. Oh yeah, and the quote for the day "I don't want you to pass. I want you to learn!", naks! haha

All day I felt groggy since I haven't had much sleep last night. So I just slept at the library (good thing I wasn't visible behind the huge stack of books.. haha) while waiting for our review classes to start. Because of the lack of sleep the blues kicked in which turned to immediate thoughts of suicidal ideation.. haha.. Weird right?

So, fast forward the events, after review class, Noelle and I decided to head straight to Larsian for some good, old barbecue fix. haha. It went out great since the rest of the gang decided to come with us. There's definitely nothing like some tasty chicken skin to chase those blues away. haha

Then there's the CITOM chase. hahaha.. dakop2! As what Jude aptly said, "Bai mura mig nag-Fast and the Furious! wahahahaha!!".

And yeah, Lor, Noelle and I got nearly trapped at Robinson's Mall before we headed straight to Club Ultima. haha

Here are some pics from our brief stroll around Club Ultima. By the way, Mr. Long, you should definitely treat us for a day at the pool. hahaha. 100 ra ha? yaw 300. hahahaha

Thanks again Noelle for the pics! haha.. Pool! Pool! Pool! ^^

Evil Washing Machine

Ok here it goes. I woke up kinda late today, around 11am, so instead of catching up my usual mass at Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino, I decided to change my schedule for the day and instead hear mass before I go swimming this afternoon. (oh yeah, I do swim.. nyahaha..)

So I did my usual morning rituals, read my overflowing txt messages (gosh someone misses me! hahaha) and fixed my bed. When I was already downstairs, I noticed my little sister was doing the laundry and all of them already ate their breakfast.

To my complete horror and utter disbelief, my little sister just calmly said, "Kuya imong badge naguba" ("Big Bro, your badge is broken.") There and then I realized I forgot to take off my badge and nameplate before I tossed my uniform to the laundry basket. Waaaaaaaa!

The whole essence of my senior student nurse life is now broken, warped, annihilated, ruined, wasted, gone, na-da, non-existent! And to top it all off, my nameplate's pin was completely severed from the plate.

All because of this evil, good-for-nothing washing machine.

Oh yeah, did I mention, duty month is about a week from now?

I'm doomed.

I just hope Suarez would still make me a new one.

Somebody save me! haha
